My name is Pam Bennett Young. I started teaching music in 1979-80. So, since this is now 2011-2012, can you figure out how many years have passed since that first year? I have taught Music in such diverse locations as the fifth ward in Houston to the island of Java in Indonesia.
I also have many years of experience in vocal music as a performer, voice teacher, and choral director. A graduate of the Baylor University School of Music, I have performed in a variety of venues from musical theatre at Stages in Houston and Unity Theatre in Brenham to classical halls in South America and commercial recording studios in the United States. One of my favorite productions was the many years of
Pageant: A Christmas Spectacular in which I performed, but I also really loved playing the Cheshire Cat in Unity Theatre's production of
Alice in Wonderland, too. But I guess the musical theatre role that I loved playing the most was the part of the Narrator in
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. I love to sing and love combining the unique timbres of individual voices to create one glorious, soul-unifying work of art which will never be repeated exactly the same way again.
I am also the Founding Artistic Director of the Brenham Children’s Chorus and I sing in my church choir. I love to spend time with my family that is scattered all over the United States. I love antiques, toys, reading, pets, travel, musicals, British sitcoms, Scotland and chocolate. And I have had a fantastic time hearing from many of my former students on Facebook. The weirdest thing is...some of them are older than me now. How did that happen?
